Plovdiv Offering Gold But Who Will Take It?

The pinnacle of rowing for 2018 is set to excite with conditions and crews in peak form for the World Rowing Championships.

Situated in central southern Bulgaria, Plovdiv’s rowing course has played host to international rowing since 1999 when it hosted the World Junior Championships. The course which sits just next to the Maritza River and is sheltered by a thick line of trees which should provide even race conditions across all lanes.

There will be plenty to watch with a line up of 15 Australian crews including a mix of defending world champions and those making their debut on the senior team.

Defending champs include Erik Horrie in the PR1 M1x, the M4- of Alexander Hill, Jack Hargreaves, Spencer Turrin and Joshua Hicks and the W4- of Molly Goodman, Sarah Hawe, Katrina Werry and Lucy Stephan.

Looking to the other nations, the Danish W4- of Anne Larsen, Frida Sanggaard Nielson, Hedvig Ramussen and Ida Jacobsen are looking to really challenge the Australians. Then in the LW2x, Ilse Paulis and Marieke Keijser from the Netherlands who are also looking to edge out a very competitive field.

We’ll also be keeping on eye on the Canadians in LM2x, Patrick Keane and Maxwell Lattimer and the Romanian youngsters in the M4-, Mihaita-Vasile, Cosmin Pascari, Stefan-Constantin Berariu and Ciprian Huc.
