We sat down with Akira to discuss the AKIRA x 776BC capsule. A collaboration almost two years in the making. Akira described the collection as “a true fashion and function moment.”
How would you describe your design aesthetic?
A fusion of classic and contemporary, a sophistication and rawness. It is a sense of aesthetics that transcends time and space.
What interested you about collaborating with 776BC?
776BC is specialized expert in producing high performance active sportswear. Their unique vision in creating products with a specific technical knowledge that maximize athletes’ performance is not only outstanding but so fascinating to me.
What inspired the range?
1960’s vintage kimono from my family in Kyoto was the core inspiration for this capsule collection. Its colors and prints were merged with the new technologies of protective and permeable textiles. They are so light and soft.
Were there any challenges working on a completely different product to what you're used to?
With great assistance from the team at 776BC, the journey from the beginning has been more pleasure than challenge.
How would you describe the collection?
Vibrant with multitude of functions.
