As the Junior World Championships kicked off in Trakai, Lithuania, the Australian Juniors are off to a flying start. With a record number of crews entered in this year’s championships, it is set to be a competitive year of racing. For many of the athletes this will be their first appearance competing on the world stage; the juniors will take on this challenge wearing their Motion kit.
Despite the strong opposition the young Australian crews have been excelling in their heats. Both the Men’s and Woman’s doubles races overnight producing strong performances which qualify them straight through to Friday’s quarter-finals. The Junior Women’s Double Scull finished their heat in a comfortable second place.
Meanwhile the Junior Men’s Double Scull finished their heat two lengths ahead of their closest competition, with the fastest time of all five heats setting them in a very good place going into quarter-finals. The Junior Men’s Quad and the Junior Women’s Eight are set to race this evening (Thursday), both need a top two finish to secure spots in the semi-finals and A-finals respectively.
Best of luck to all the Juniors in their upcoming races from the 776BC team!
