The Junior Australian Rowing Team have wrapped up their time at the 2019 Junior Rowing World Championships in Tokyo. The crews showed some strong performances on the final day of competition with four boats competing in A-finals. The Men’s Double Scull of Hamish Henriques and Harrison Fox came into their final having won all their races. Racing in lane 3 they faced tough competition from the Germans who came into the race as slight favourites having won their semi-final in 6 minutes 27 seconds edging the Aussies semi-final time of 6 minute 28 seconds.
The Australians took the lead early but were well matched by the Germans, with Italy sitting in third. By the halfway mark Henriques and Fox where in the lead with Germany and Italy fighting it out for second. As the crews got to into the final 250m the Aussies upped the tempo to 39 to hold off the Germans before pushing hard again to cross the line with a rate of 41 strokes, claiming the gold in the process. The A-Finals wrapped up with Australia’s Junior Women’s Coxed Four and the Junior Women’s Pair taking sixth place and the Junior Men’s Coxed Four finishing fifth.
