Final Speed Check Before Rio: Rowing World Cup 3

by Lauren O'Connor on June 17, 2016

Final speed check before Rio.

The world’s best rowers have gathered in Poznan, Poland, for the third and final World Rowing Cup Regatta of 2016. This weekend represents the last opportunity for crews to test themselves against their key competition before they line up in August. Race practice is critical for any crew, and this rowing regatta represents a great opportunity for all crews to understand what improvements still need to be made during their final training block. The Australian Men’s Four will be one to watch with 776BC athlete Josh Dunkley-Smith, Josh Booth, Will Lockwood and Alex Hill hungry for gold after narrowly missing first place at World Cup II in Lucerne. The boys will face tough competition with reigning Olympic champions Great Britain, and reigning World Champions Italy, amongst the eight boats competing in their class. The Australian Men’s Quad Scull with James McRae, Cameron Girdlestone, Alexander Belonogoff and Karsten Forsterling, will be looking to emulate their gold winning performance from Lucerne. “We’re focused on executing what we have been working hard on in training and using our momentum from Lucerne”, said Cameron. With under 50 days until Rio, all crews will be eager to make their mark.

Full list of crews and television broadcast times are available at the Australian Olympic Team website.
