WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE YOUR SPORT?
Played soccer, basketball, and ran cross country growing up but once I started to row in high school, there was something about literally 'being in the same boat' as my teammates that made everything more fun and seemingly achievable.
WHAT’S BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE PERFORMANCE, AND WHY?
2017 World Championships in Sarasota, FL - finishing 2nd in a race where we really didn't have high expectations given that the boat came together late and the 2016-2017 training center was scattered after Rio.
WHAT’S BEEN YOUR TOUGHEST CHALLENGE YOU’VE HAD TO FACE IN YOUR SPORT, AND WHAT DID IT TEACH YOU?
2016 Final Olympic Qualifier in Lucerne - after our 7th place finish at Worlds in 2015, we knew that our entire year would come down to the qualifier. Racing there taught me about intensity and trust in the boat - every stroke seemed to matter more than the last one and we all had to do our jobs throughout the year to get there.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU? WHAT KEEPS YOU GETTING UP EVERY MORNING?
The consistency that rowing demands is my daily motivation/routine - when we were still part of the training center (in Princeton, then in Oakland), knowing that we had teammates relying on us to be ready to row ingrained in me the importance of showing up, on time, every morning.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR YOUNGER ATHLETES ENTERING THE SPORT ASPIRING GREATNESS ON THE WORLD STAGE?
Try to appreciate the process that goes into getting faster, stronger, and better each day - it takes time and effort to achieve worthwhile changes.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO OUTSIDE OF YOUR SPORT? INTERESTS? CAREER?
Recently finished grad school, excited to be continuing with Peloton as their platform brings rowing to more people!
